Mondell’s Single Cut Short Scale Bass Is Packed With Handmade Details

Mondell Single Cut Short Scale Bass

On the way between gigs this weekend, I stopped at a killer guitar store called Six String Brokerage in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. The small boutique is packed with bizarre and beautiful guitars with a serious roster of basses, too, including a few by luthier Rob Mondell. That led me to check out his website and find this: the Mondell Single Cut Short Scale Bass.

Featuring a 30.25-inch scale, the bass is crafted with a mahogany chambered body and flame maple top that’s accented by handmade checkerboard binding and abalone purfling. Its rosewood fingerboard is bound in white and Mondell matched the combo in the headstock plate. Other features include a Vintage speed bump pickup, passive electronics, a rosewood tailpiece, and a handmade aluminum bridge with rosewood saddles.
