Throwback: Tori Amos and Jon Evans Live on Sessions at West 54th
Last week, I had the chance to interview bassist Jon Evans and I also saw Tori Amos live for the first time. Both experiences sent me back to this incredible performance from Sessions at West 54th.
This 1998 set is actually the performance that won me over as a Tori Amos fan when it originally aired. The whole band is fantastic with Evans and drummer Matt Chamberlain creating a deep, adventurous rhythmic foundation underneath Tori’s piano. Evans plays his five-string Tobias for much of the performance, and it’s especially cool to revisit knowing that he’s still using that same bass decades later. I’m also including a photo of his current pedalboard for a look at what he’s working with these days.

And after finally hearing Tori live myself, I can say she still sounds amazing.
Enjoy this throwback, and stay tuned: our interview with Jon Evans is coming soon.
