Sleep Token Bassist III Gets a Multiscale Charvel Signature Bass

Sleep Token III with Signature Charvel Bass

Jackson and Charvel have announced new signature instruments for two members of Sleep Token, the anonymous English rock band, including a bass for the member known as III. The Charvel Sleep Token III Signature Pro-Mod San Dimas® Bass V has been tailored to III’s specifications to capture their “genre-defying and mystifying sound,” the company explains.

“III is the heartbeat of Sleep Token’s sound. Visually, his masked mystique and kinetic stage presence amplify the band’s ritualistic aesthetic,” Charvel writes. “Sonically, his bass is the glue between thunderous heaviness and atmospheric lift. His low-end work is both architectural and expressive, locking in with percussive precision one moment, then delivering groove-driven, melody-forward lines that give the songs depth and movement the next.”

To achieve that tone, Charvel created a five-string version of the Pro-Mod San Dimas with a poplar body complemented by a caramelized maple neck and fingerboard. The fingerboard has a progressive 12″-16″ compound radius with jumbo frets, and the neck has Luminlay side dots for navigating the fretboard in the dark. It also has a 34.4″ to 35.5″ multi-scale neck and fanned frets to optimize the string tension across all five strings.

For electronics, Charvel fitted III’s custom axe with a pair of Fishman Fluence soap bar pickups and a Fishman 2-band EQ. The Fluence pickups have three distinct voicings controlled by a mini-toggle to quickly reshape the bass’s sonic character. Hipshot Ultralite tuners and a Charvel single-string bass bridge round out the main features.
