Watch Green Day’s Full Surprise Set Honoring Mike Dirnt at the 2026 Bass Magazine Awards
Back in January, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the 2026 Bass Magazine Awards at The Observatory in California. It was already a special night but things went to another level when Green Day took the stage for a surprise seven song set.
Mike Dirnt had just received the Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by Mark Hoppus and Ronnie Ficarro and Green Day closed out the night with a set packed with favorites, including “Welcome to Paradise,” “Longview,” “Holiday,” “American Idiot,” “Basket Case,” “J.A.R.,” and “When I Come Around.” Bass fans will also notice Mike switching between his signature Fender Precision Bass and his newer Epiphone Grabber basses throughout the set.
I was lucky enough to be right up front, directly in front of Billie Joe Armstrong, photographing the show. You can actually spot me quite a bit in the footage. Seeing a band as iconic as Green Day from that close, in a room that size, was one of the great highlights of my life. Check out our photos HERE!
