Holcomb Guitars’ Nadacaster Bass Features a Pickup You Can Move While You Play
The Fretboard Summit in Chicago, Illinois on August 20-22 featured over 100 exhibitors showcasing some of the finest luthier work around. Of all the incredible instruments, this Holcomb Guitar Nadacaster Bass nearly stole the show.
Here’s why:
Luthier Nick Holcomb devised a custom blade humbucking pickup (wound at 14.5k) on a unique sliding plaform that “allows for not just an endless variety of tones but also the ability to manipulate your sound while you play,” he explains. The bass also has Graph Tech piezo saddles in its wenge bridge. Holcomb set the controls for Volume, tone, and piezo volume – on sliders, of course.
“Gotta have slider pots on the sliding pickup bass, ya know?” he quips.
Of course, the sliding pickup is only part of the bass’s incredible attributes. Holcomb built it with set neck construction featuring a black limba body and a buckeye burl top over redwood. Its korina neck is complemented by a wenge fingerboard. Hipshot Y Ultralite tuners round out the hardware on this incredible build.
