Ashdown Expands Saint Bass Line with Multiscale Avant and Figured-Top Artisan

Ashdown Engineering has expanded its Saint Series of bass guitars with two new models: the Avant and the Artisan. The company says the new designs “broaden the range with enhanced performance features, premium materials, and bold new aesthetics.”

“Together, they represent the next evolution of the Saint platform, offering players even greater choice in tone, feel, and visual identity,” they add.

The Saint Avant-4 and Avant-5 models are more progressive designs, featuring multi-scale necks with fanned frets. They also have three passive pickups in a unique slanted configuration to match the altered string lengths. Each is built with a roasted maple neck and fingerboard completed with black inlays. The Saint Avant comes in Matte Black or Lambo Metallic Blue finishes.

The Artisan focuses on elevated craftsmanship on a traditional design. It is fitted with a PJ pickup configuration and a figured maple top accented in five distinct finishes: Verdigris green, Aegean blue, Obsidian black, Cardinal red, and Amethyst purple.

“These instruments retain a familiar 34” scale length and classic design elements, while incorporating roasted maple necks and fretboards for enhanced stability and a smooth, fast playing feel,” Ashdown writes. “Black block inlays provide a timeless visual touch, balancing heritage-inspired styling with modern refinement.”

The Avant sells for $599 for the four-string and $649 for the five-string, while the Artisan will go for $450. Ashdown tells No Treble the basses will reach the UK in mid-October, with Guitar Center stores across the U.S. receiving them in the new year.
