Karina Rykman Turns Up the Groove on “Late Checkout”
Karina Rykman‘s second studio album, Late Checkout, is out now, and it doesn’t disappoint. The collection of songs strikes a perfect balance of pop, rock, jam, and funk music for an infectious listen.
The bassist recorded with longtime collaborator Gabe Monro at Trey Anastasio’s The Barn before taking it to LCD Soundsystem’s DFA Studios in New York City.
“[It was special] to be able to lock in with my band for 14 days in this magical place where we didn’t leave the property once,” Rykman told Steve Lacy about recording at The Barn. “We lived there, we ate there, we slept there, we breathed there. All we did was music for 14 days. We did all the basic tracks there, and then we took all of that from Vermont right back to New York City and went to LCD Soundsystem’s Studio TFA and put all the bells and whistles on top there.”

Rykman also told Lacy that making a new album is exciting because “it’s about having more songs to play live,” and play them live she will. Her tour starts October 2nd at the Ardmore Music Hall just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and will cover much of the U.S. into December. See below for full tour dates.
