Stevie Wonder Opens the “Songs in the Key of Life” Vault, With Nathan Watts on Two Tracks
Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life turned 50 on September 28th, 2026, and the music icon celebrated by releasing an EP of previously unheard tracks from the session. Songs in the Key of Life: The EP expands on the iconic double album.
“We’ve lived with Songs in the Key of Life for fifty years, but there’s still more to hear,” Wonder said in a press release. “We didn’t add these songs to the album, but they were part of what I was feeling and discovering as we made it. They bring me back to that time in my life, and now they get to become part of yours.”
Nathan Watts, who played on the original album, appears on “It’s Easier” and “I Can See the Sun in Late December.” On “It’s Easier,” he delivers a bass line that blurs funk and disco.
The EP is streaming now on Apple Music, Amazon Music, and more.
Songs in the Key of Life debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album in 1976 and has continued to connect with listeners thanks to songs like “I Wish,” “Isn’t She Lovely,” and “Sir Duke.” Wonder will be performing the album in its entirety on a tour this fall across Europe and the United States.
