John Deacon’s Bass Drives Queen’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” in Restored Budapest Footage

John Deacon looks right at home on “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” in this newly restored footage from Queen’s legendary 1986 Budapest concert.

Deacon is sporting the perm, a black Fender P Bass with gold hardware, and a playing style that reminds us why John is a legend.. The band is absolutely cooking and the remastered picture makes it possible to catch details that were much harder to appreciate in earlier versions of the concert film.

Queen played Budapest on July 27, 1986 during the Magic Tour. The show sold out all 80,000 tickets, while an estimated 45,000 more fans gathered outside to hear the band.  The concert was shot on 35mm film using 17 cameras and roughly 25 miles of film. For the new release, the original footage has been restored in 4K by Peter Jackson’s Park Road Post Production with remixed audio.

The restored Queen Budapest is now arriving in cinemas and IMAX worldwide for a limited theatrical run, marking the concert’s 40th anniversary.
