Chad Villar sent us this video of a duet he performed with Jim Joel Santos of the great Joe Zawinul tune, “Mercy Mercy Mercy”. These guys do such a terrific job, and it reminds me of another great bass duet of this tune from the archives.

There’s something beautiful about stripping a song down to just bass and voice, especially when that voice comes from Lianne La Havas. In this gorgeous rendition of Little Dragon’s “Twice,” bassist Chris Dagger lays down the song’s hypnotic bass line and harmonics.

Jim Joel Santos knocks us out with his bass playing and arrangements of tunes. Jim recently shared one of his newest videos, this time performing Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature” with some tasty bass playing and soloing.

There’s something very satisfying about the combination of bass and kalimba. Olivier Babaz plays both simultaneously (not to mention a foot shaker) in this chilled out rendition of the Jaco Pastorius tune “Teen Town.” Talk about coordination!

David Pastorius recently wowed us all with his performance of Tech N9ne’s “Questions”. He’s at it again. Here’s David adding his thing to Tech N9ne’s “Worldwide Choppers”.

Giorgio Terenziani knocked us out with his “bass orchestra” arrangement of The Police tune, “Everything She Does Is Magic”. Giorgio performs this using five basses: three standard and two micro basses. He says he usually plays this during clinics with a loop station, but decided to layer all the different sections together for this video. Pretty amazing.

We like to celebrate Halloween bass-style each year. Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” shows up on many of the top 10 Halloween song lists we’ve seen, and luckily for us, Andres Rotmistrovsky put together his own solo bass arrangement. I don’t know how he holds down the bass line while playing the chords, but I’m going to be studying that. Happy Halloween!
