Federico Malaman & POP on TOP: “Rolling in the Deep” Cover
As far as rearranging pop hits goes, I know that for some people, the arrangements by Dirty Loops can get a bit too quirky (not saying that’s us though!) If you are one of those people, this may be for you. Here’s POP on TOP playing bassist Federico Malaman’s rearrangement of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep”.
Bass Orchestra: All Bass Queens of the Stone Age Medley
Bass Orchestra, aka Ran Mussman, is back again with an all bass tribute to the Queens of the Stone Age. Mussman rocks through “Turnin’ on the Screw,” “No One Knows,” and “Little Sister,” using only his bass guitar.
Steve Lawson: “Don’t Stop Believing” Solo Bass Cover
Steve Lawson shared this one with us on Twitter saying, “[I] think you might enjoy this solo bass cover…” Well Steve, your hunch was correct.
Olivier Babaz: Bass & Kalimba Cover of “Message in a Bottle”
Olivier Babaz continues to amaze me with each video he puts out. His specialty is playing upright bass and kalimba simultaneously, and this time he’s putting the combo to use on The Police’s “Message in a Bottle.” Impressive!
Zander Zon: Linkin Park’s “Numb” Solo Bass Arrangement
Zander Zon has shared his latest – a solo bass arrangement of Linkin Park’s “Numb”. Enjoying this one, and at the same time, I’m wondering what Zander will do next.
KNOWER with Tim Lefebvre: Daft Punk “Get Lucky” Cover
Interestingly, this cover covers both the electronic era of Daft Punk and the current era which features more live instruments. For the “live instruments” part, KNOWER has teamed up with the ever-funky Tim Lefebvre on the bass.
Simon Fitzpatrick: “Roundabout” Live Solo Bass Performance
Simon Fitzpatrick is a guy who constantly pushes himself to see what can be done on the bass. Here’s the latest example: an incredibly intricate solo bass version of the classic Yes track “Roundabout.” After putting it all together with just his bass and his hands, Fitzpatrick builds the piece with a looper to lay a superb solo overtop.
Dante Pascuzzo: Inner Urge
Bassist Dante Pascuzzo arranged this cool version of Joe Henderson’s “Inner Urge,” which takes the jazz standard and adds a electronica break beat to it. Pascuzzo lays down some fat upright bass before chording and soloing with his 5-string electric. Dig it.
Marcus Miller: “Detroit” & “I’ll Be There” Solo Bass Performance
Today is Marcus Miller’s birthday, and so we’re celebrating with some solo bass music by the man himself. Here’s Marcus performing “Detroit” and the Jackson 5’s “I’ll Be There” on the Tavis Smiley show on PBS.
Bassment Dan: Slap Bass Arrangement of Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance”
Dan Scowcroft, AKA Bassment Dan, sent us this video of his slap bass arrangement of Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance.” Step 1: we had to get over our music snobbery. Step 2: we dug what he was doing. Lesson learned: don’t judge a video by its title.
Kühntett: Teen Town
Who says you can’t play “Teen Town” on upright? Axel Kühn arranged the tune for his sextet, called Kühntett, and decided to rock it out on his double bass. Not only does he nail the melody, he takes a tasty solo starting at 5:26. Bravo!
Bass Orchestra: All Bass Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg Medley
Bass Orchestra, AKA Ran Mussman, put together this awesome all bass mashup of the Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg songs “Still D.R.E.” and “The Next Episode.” All of the sounds he plays are made on his bass, with a little help from his DAW. Mussman also takes a crack at replicating the video with cars and girls. Well done, sir.
