Craig Akin is making the most of this continued quarantine time with a project he calls “KC Meets NY”. Akin teamed up with Brandon Draper on drums and Sean Nowell on EMEO to record a fantastic cover of Herbie Hancock’s “Watermelon Man”.
Craig Akin: “Sanford and Son” Theme on Upright Bass
Our friend Jayme Lewis shared this video on Facebook, with just two words: “So sick.” The bassist is Craig Akin. The tune is “The Streetbeater” by Quincy Jones – but you may know it better as the theme to Sanford and Son. So sick is right. The only thing better would be if it could be a little longer.
Craig Akin: “Do it!” Funky Upright Bass
Craig Akin sent us this epic video of a tune he wrote for solo upright bass. The tune, “Do it!” was featured on Abbie Gardner’s album, Hope in 2011. Craig said he’s performing this tune on his 19th century Tyrolean bass with spirocore strings. Oh yeah.
