The Jaco Pastorius Archive just dropped another excellent piece of Jaco Pastorius and Joni Mitchell history. Here's "Edith and the Kingpin," recorded live with Jaco and Bobbye Hall on November 22, 1976.

Joni Mitchell’s archival releases have continued with Archives – Vol. 4: The Asylum Years (1976-1980), which sheds light on the singer-songwriter’s jazzier phase of the last ’70s. The lineup includes bassists Jaco Pastorius, Charles Mingus, Rob Stoner, Max Bennett, Stanley Clarke, and Eddie Gomez.

Jaco Pastorius’s trio with guitarist Biréli Lagrène and drummer Thomas Böröcz toured in the mid-80s. Here’s a clip from their performance of “The Chicken” on March 5, 1986.

The Jaco Pastorius Archive shared another incredible recording yesterday. Joni Mitchell’s “Shadows and Light” tour stop at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles happened 45 years ago this month. For many years, I’ve loved the records of Jaco Pastorius during Herbie Hancock’s 1977 tour. Jaco was 25 at the time. Music Universe put together this video of three of Jaco’s solos during the tour, spanning three cities.
