Áron Hodek and Richard Bona: 2019 NAMM Jam
We caught 8-year-old bass prodigy Áron Hodek at the NAMM show this year and we were blown away. During a performance at the Markbass booth, Richard Bona invited Áron on stage for a jam.
House of Waters: Kites
We were thrilled to see this new video by one of our favorite bands, House of Waters. In this clip, they perform “Kite,” from their upcoming album, “Rising.” Once again, the trio of Max ZT, Moto Fukushima, and Ignacio Rivas-Bixio offer up an incredible sound.
Marleaux Artist Jam
When I was at the Marleaux booth at the NAMM Show yesterday, Ariane Cap told me about a cool video Marleaux artists put together. Each musician got a drum track and was asked to play 8 bars each. The result is pretty incredible.
Miles Mosley: Abraham
Here’s Miles Mosley at Paste Studios doing his thing on the tune, “Abraham,” back in 2017. Be sure to check out the solo! When he pulls out the bow, things get really epic.
Berklee Frank Zappa Tribute: Waka/Jawaka, Inca Roads, Peaches en Regalia, Zomby Woof
Berklee College of Music and Boston Conservatory at Berklee students paid tribute to Frank Zappa recently by performing a medley of “Waka/Jawaka,” “Inca Roads,” “Peaches en Regalia,” and “Zomby Woof.” What a great tribute and arrangement!
Me and Maria: Holder hjertet gemt (Live)
Back in 2017, we shared a video of Me and Maria’s tune, “Holder hjertet gemt.” Johannes Pehrson recently shared this live performance of the tune, which is even more impressive.
John Mayer with Dead & Company: Brown-Eyed Women
At the 2018 Lockn’ Festival John Mayer took the stage with Dead & Company at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California. In this clip, they perform The Grateful Dead’s “Brown-Eyed Women.”
Kazumi Watanabe Trio, with Richard Bona: Havana
Here’s a fantastic clip from the 2003 Tokyo Jazz show with Kazumi Watanabe, Richard Bona, and Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez. During one of Bona’s solos, Watanabe’s guitar strap gave out and his guitar came crashing down. Even that was remarkably in time.
Blues Traveler: Sweet Pain (Live)
Here’s a clip of Blues Traveler performing at a Bridge School benefit concert in October 1997. This acoustic version of “Sweet Pain” is just pure magic, thanks in part to Bobby Sheehan’s terrific work on the acoustic bass guitar.
Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
I really dig Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles, and I also dig NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert series. So here’s a double dose of awesome. Even better, the first thing you hear is Sharay Reed, who is putting on a clinic in this clip.
The Main Squeeze: Where Do We Go?
Back in November, The Main Squeeze took the stage at Thalia Hall in Chicago and showed off their incredible diversity. Here’s a clip from the show, where they perform “Where Do We Go?” from their debut album.
Tal Wilkenfeld: “Under The Sun” (Live)
Tal Wilkenfeld is gearing up to release her new album this spring. Yesterday, she shared a live video performance of “Under The Sun,” which is one of the tracks on the upcoming record. This was filmed during The Who’s “The Who Hits 50!” tour in 2016.
