Stefano Francazio Solo Bass: Assenza Di Gravità
Laura Palumbo sent in this great video of Stefano Francazio playing a cool solo bass piece entitled “Assenza Di Gravità”. The title translates to “Absence of Gravity.” Enjoy!
The Aristocrats: 2012 Frankfurt Jazz Festival Performance
Here’s an hour-long performance by The Aristocrats, from a live stream back in October. (Hey, it’s Sunday… you have time. Especially for this.) This is one epic trio, with Bryan Beller on bass, Guthrie Govan on guitar and Marco Minnemann on drums. Look for that band’s new DVD coming out on December 10th.
Richard Bona: Continuum
Tomorrow is Jaco’s birthday, so we’re thinking a lot about him around here. And so here’s an audio track of Richard Bona playing one of Jaco’s compositions, “Continuum.” (He throws in some extra Jaco stuff too). So much bass greatness all in one spot.
Steve Harris: Us Against the World
In late September, Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris released his first solo album entitled British Lion. Now he’s put out a music video for the first single, “Us Against the World”. The project is a bit of a step away from Iron Maiden, but Harris’ ballsy bass tone is still the center of the music.
Edmond Gilmore: “Port Of Entry” Weather Report/Jaco Pastorius Play-along
Bassist Edmond Gilmore is a bassist we’ve featured before, and one who loves to take on Jaco Pastorius bass lines and tunes. Here’s Edmond performing along to the Weather Report tune, “Port of Entry”. Great stuff, as usual.
Ray Brown Trio: Lady Be Good
No one can lay down a greasy, heavy swing quite like Ray Brown. Here’s a great video of him grooving hard with pianist Gene Harris and drummer Jeff Hamilton on the song “Lady Be Good” during a 1992 concert in France. The trio’s use of dynamics is astounding, going from the softest whispers to raucous wailing.
The Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back” Bass And Drums Cover
We love it when bassists work together, and this is video is a reason why. Swiss bassist Sebastiano Mereu collaborated with Jasmine from Hong Kong (AKA deppwaswho) and drummer Fabio from Switzerland (AKA PingaloBIll) to make this sweet version of the Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back”. Such a good groove.
Pipoquinha: IB&T Bass Festival Solo Performance
A little over two years ago, we shared a video of Pipoquinha, a young bassist from Brazil. In that video, Pipoquinha was just 13 years old, but played (and sang) well beyond his years. That video ended up being the most watched and most shared videos of the year on No Treble. Facebook friend George Wagner just shared a new...
Simon Fitzpatrick: “Karma Police” for Solo Bass
Here’s a recent video by bassist Simon Fitzpatrick, this time showing off his incredible solo bass arranging and playing skills with an all-bass cover of Radiohead’s “Karma Police”. Simon is playing his 6-string GB Spitfire bass. Awesomeness.
Six String Fretless: Beyond Creation’s “Omnipresent Perception”
You don’t hear a lot of fretless in death metal (save for Steve DiGiorgio and Jeroen Paul Thesseling). So it’s cool to hear the instrument add a new element to a genre. A good example is the band Beyond Creation, featuring bassist Dominic “Forest” Lapointe on six-string fretless. Check out this music video for the song “Omnipresent Perception”, in which...
Stefan Hergenröder & Claus Hessler: Löewenzahn
If you’re searching for a little inspiration for your delay pedal, look no further. This video of bassist Stefan Hergenröder and drummer Claus Hessler has got you covered. The footage here is taken from the recording of the track “Löewenzahn” from Hergenröder’s upcoming album, and yes, that’s how he plays it live. The bassist uses a single delay to create...
Jeff Bradetich: Bach Cello Suite No. 1, I. Prelude
The Bach Cello Suite is one of the most beautiful pieces ever written, and thankfully it translates pretty well to bass. Here’s the first movement of the first suite performed by master bassist Jeff Bradetich. The clip is taken from his DVD of the entire first suite.
