Höfner Unveils Limited Edition Black Violin Bass

As part of their 125th anniversary celebrations, Höfner has unveiled a limited edition Black Violin Bass. The new bass shares many of the specs of the company’s ‘61 Cavern bass but utilizes closely spaced single coil “Toaster” pickups that were only used in 1960.

The Höfner Black Violin Bass is limited to 12 pieces, which will be available in left and right-handed models. It’s handmade in Germany and is expected to be shipping this December with a price of €2650 (approx. $3,409.72 USD). For more info, check out the Höfner website.

  1. Nice to see a lefty picture for once.

  2. Nice one! Why not as a 5 stringer too?

  3. Cmon guys, great looking bass, anniversary and all, but $3,500? I can buy one down the street for $300 and strip it down and paint it black. You must remember who your customers are. Sometimes I have to choose between a set of strings or a meal. Sometimes I boil my strings with my spagetti, Just my input hehe.

    • And fully solid sides, back and top :P plus high quality electronics, and the entire bass handmade in germany? That sort of stuff costs money you know :P Now I’m not saying they don’t make a profit, but the bass was expensive to make… and I think it’ll tell if you compare it to a 300 buck one ;)

  4. WOW that’s cool looking.

    Hello…
I’m searching for a Hofner 500/1 “Gold Label” Gloss Black Bass, like the one pictured, (125th anniversary limited edition), Left Handed. Do you know of any that are for sale? Are Hofner making any limited edition ones for 2022? If so, do you know of any distributors that would carry these?

    Regards, Robert Jackson
