Rock Candy Funk Party Releases Live DVD/CD

If you miss 1970s/80s style jazz-funk, the groove-laden supergroup Rock Candy Funk Party has got something for you — the DVD/CD package Rock Candy Funk Party Takes New York – Live At The Iridium.

The group includes Mike Merritt, who has been the bassist in Conan O’Brien’s late-night shows since 1993. The other players are album producer Tal Bergman (drums), Joe Bonamassa (guitar), Ron DeJesus (guitar), Renato Neto (keys), and Daniel Sadownick (percussion).

Live at the Iridium documents a three-night stand, and having three nights was a luxury for the band, Merritt says in a documentary promo from the band featured on YouTube. The time allowed the band to be looser with each set and explore twists and turns in the music, which is part of the fun. “It’s part of the magic,” he said.
