John Patitucci Goes to Brooklyn on Latest Album

John Patitucci: BrooklynJohn Patitucci isn’t just a famed jazz double bassist and jazz bass teacher. He’s also an electric bassist, and his latest album, Brooklyn, features him playing electric exclusively.

Credited to the John Patitucci Electric Guitar Quartet, the album also features Brian Blade (drums) and electric guitarists Adam Rogers and Steve Cardenas. By the way, a documentary about Patitucci, called, fittingly enough, “Back in Brooklyn,” is in the works.

All About Jazz notes in its four-star (of four) review of the album that the record features songs that greatly influenced Patitucci as a young player (he began on electric), including Wes Montgomery’s “The Thumb”:

“While no single album can capture every angle of Patitucci’s playing, Brooklyn manages to shine a light on his multifaceted electric bass work better than anything else in his leader discography,” writes All About Jazz reviewer Dan Bilawsky.

Brooklyn is available on CD and as a digital download (iTunes and Amazon MP3).
