Tal Wilkenfeld: Under the Sun

Back in March, Tal Wilkenfeld visited Paste Studios in New York and recorded this live performance of “Under the Sun”.

Like the Tal’s solo performance of “Chelsea Hotel”, we once again get to experience not only her bass playing, but also her vocals.

Everything’s great till she sings stick to being a bass player!!!

that’s your opinion only. I love the sound of her voice. Far better than sounding like every other female. She’s unique and true to her own sounds.

Tal- please stick to playing bass. Your singing is not awful, but it is nowhere near the calibre of your playing. Not everyone can be Esperanza Spalding.

    • Singing is a way of expresing what she feels, she can do it if she wants. Not the best voice ? says who!? if you dont like what you hear then go listen other singers…

  3. Very rude. She’s a better singer than Hendrix or even Dylan. Yeah she’s not Adele, but so what?

I totally agree – amazing song and outstanding musicianship. Do you know who th e other musicians are? The woman backing Tal up sounds very familiar – I feel I’ve heard her voice before but can’t place it.

This young woman is EXTREMELY talented. Both as a (killer) bassist and a vocalist. This isn’t really my type as music; but I can’t deny the true talent that I am hearing. Her voice is fantastic (imo and for her style of music). She reminds me a bit of Joni Mitchell. Her bass playing is so soulful… of course we already know this.

God, so beautiful and intense. Like Jeff Buckley meets an acoustic King Crimson. So innovative. This kind of jerked me out of a rut, mesmerizing.

She has a distinctive voice that requires material to match. Chelsea may not have been the best choice whereas Under The Sun is spot on. If she restricted herself to the bass she would be just that – restricted. I hope she continues to shine.

Wonderful song! Do you know who the other musicians are? The other vocalist sounds familiar.

Tal can sing. I did not know that.Maybe you can teach Jeff Beck to sing. I swore I would not buy anymore CD’s.got so much now and getting older and running out of time.I am going to make an exception for Tal and buy her CD.I understand she has a solo CD out
