Fund Set Up for Chip Shearin After Moving Accident

Chip Shearin

Bassist Chip Shearin suffered a devastating blow on when nearly all of his family’s possessions were destroyed on June 22nd. Shearin was in the process of moving his family to Los Angeles when the driver of his moving truck fell asleep at the wheel. The resulting accident ruined most of his children’s toys, his studio equipment, several of his basses, his heirlooms, and even his car that was being towed behind the truck. Luckily, his family is all safe.

A fund has been established to help the bassist’s family return to normalcy as the insurance process begins. “The funds will be used to help restore the needs of Chip’s sons, provide the family with basic items for daily living and ease the stresses of replacing their entire household,” the GoFundMe page states. “The equipment Chip uses to make a living is destroyed. This rebuilding process is daunting. This campaign will restore lost items but will also restore a family.”

Chip Shearin has been a mainstay in the music community. Besides recording the bass line for the Sugarhill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight”, he’s worked with Donald Byrd, Marion Meadows, Aretha Franklin, Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Ceelo, and many more.
