Sadowsky Unveils Vintage Style Single Cut Bass

Roger Sadowsky and crew have introduced a vintage version of their Single Cut model, which was introduced earlier this year. The bass retains the specs of the original bass with two key differences: different pickups and the inclusion of a pickguard and control plate.

Sadowsky gave us the scoop on the new pickup set, which includes a single J-style pickup in the neck position and a dual-coil in the bridge position that brings together the sounds of the ’60s and ’70s. “The Sadowsky 60/70 pickup was designed as part of our Single Cut bass series, co-designed by LA Bassist, Chip Shearin,” he writes. “Based on Chip’s request for a pickup that could switch between 60’s and 70’s J bass bridge locations, we teamed up with Nordstrand pickups who designed an elegant pickup for us. Each coil is a hum canceling J pickup, in order to combine without any hum with the neck pickup, which is also hum canceling. A mini 3-way toggle switch selects the 60 coil, both coils together in parallel, and the 70 coil. The two rows of pole pieces are placed close together to mimic the difference in locations between the Fender 60 location and 70 location.”

The luthier adds that the pickup will not be available for retrofit, due to the fact that it is narrower than a Fender bridge pickup and will not cover the original J-bass pickup rout.

The Vintage Single Cut is also fitted with a pickguard, where the standard is not. Other features include a chambered swamp ash body, 24-fret bolt-on maple neck, and choice of a maple or rosewood fingerboard. It will be available soon with a price point starting at $5,500.
