Groove – Episode #38: Billy Sheehan

Billy Sheehan: Live Groove NAMM 2018

Welcome to our first-ever live recording of Groove – The No Treble Podcast which took place at the NAMM Show in Anaheim (and was recorded in front of a live audience at the NAMM Idea Centre), this past week. Our guest this month can best be described as a living legend. Not only has Billy Sheehan played in some of the most interesting rock bands in the world (David Lee Roth’s amazing first band post-Van Halen, Mr. Big, The Winery Dogs, and many more), Billy is also one of the most unique rock bass players the world has ever seen. He has his own unique style, technique, and speed that has, without a doubt, moved the bass guitar from a supporting role in between the drums and guitar to a lead instrument in the rock band mix.

What Eddie Van Halen is to the electric guitar, Billy is to the electric bass. It’s not just his playing, but his songwriting skills as well. Over the years, Billy’s songs have been on top of the rock n’ roll charts. Mr. Big’s song, “To Be With You,” became a number one hit in fourteen countries and stayed in the #1 position on the Billboard charts for close to a month.

If there was a Mt. Rushmore for the electric bass, Billy’s face would be on it.

Enjoy the conversation…
