Bob Sinicrope’s “Walking Bass Line Construction” Series Dives Into “Perdido”

Jazz bassist and educator Bob Sinicrope has returned with another book to help you learn to walk. The latest in his Walking Bass Line Construction series focuses on the jazz standard “Perdidio,” written by Juan Tizol and made famous with the Duke Ellington Orchestra. While his other volumes have focused on the blues, this one brings it to the American Songbook.
“This book is dedicated to helping bass players at all levels develop walking bass lines with emphasis on a learn by doing approach,” Sinicrope says. “Beginners with limited knowledge of how to spell chords and/or might be new to playing the bass will have an easy pathway to success and be able to quickly function in a group. The backing track options are unique and playing with them will be fun and help you play with a steady pulse. More experienced players will significantly benefit from the book’s thorough and comprehensive approach.”
Sinicrope walks you through his method as you internalize the chord tones before using patterns and scales to navigate the changes. Chapter eight then gives you 20 pages of bass lines in the styles of the greats including Milt Hinton, Sam Jones, Ray Brown, Charlie Haden, and more.
Walking Bass Line Construction – Perdido is available now in paperback or PDF formats from Sher Music.
