Watch Joe Dart Lay Down the Bass Line on Vulfmon’s “92°”
Vulfmon is back with another wonderfully groovy studio performance. “92°” was written by pedal steel guitarist Tommy de Bourbon and will appear on Vulfmon’s upcoming album, Dott.
Joe Dart holds it all together with a deep, relaxed groove on a Fender Precision Bass strung with flats. Dart settles into the pocket with Vulfmon on drums and Owen Barrett on congas, giving the tune a warm pulse from beginning to end.
For those keeping score, Vulfmon is Jack Stratton’s more project based outlet, while Vulfpeck is the full band featuring Stratton, Dart, Woody Goss, and Theo Katzman.
Like several of the recent Vulfmon videos, “92°” looks like it could have been pulled from another era. The 4:3 framing, grainy footage, and simple studio setup fit the laid back feel of the music perfectly. The track also features Jackie Evans on piano, with Jonathan Rado handling engineering and mixing alongside Vulfmon. Carter Knopik handled cinematography.
