Chris Beattie Speaks Out on Hatebreed Split: “The Decision Was Not Mine”

Chris Beattie and Matt Bachand

Several days ago, Hatebreed took to Instagram to post an update on their lineup. The post, which had comments turned off, said, “For the foreseeable future, bass duties will be handled live by [Matt Bachand] from Shadows Fall.”

This came as a bit of a surprise, considering it did not mention bassist and co-founder Chris Beattie. He has now made his own statement on Instagram, explaining that the split was not his decision.

“I just want to take the time to let everyone know that I am doing just fine and I sincerely appreciate everyone who has reached out. I was under the impression a joint announcement would be agreed upon in advance, but since that was not the case I wanted to address your concerns in my own post,” he wrote. “At this time I am unable to discuss the specifics surrounding my departure from Hatebreed on November 13, 2024. However, I want to clarify that the decision to leave the band was not mine and that my departure was uncalled for and based on misleading and wrongful statements that will be subject to future actions.”

Beattie formed Hatebreed in 1994 with vocalist Jamey Jasta, Wayn Lozniak, Larry Dwyer, and Dave Russo. Beattie and Jasta have been the only two constant band members in their 31 years together.

Hatebreed is set to perform next at Knotfest Australia on February 28th, March 2nd, and March 8th.
