New Thomastik Peter Infeld Bass Strings Blend Jazz Growl with Orchestral Projection

Thomastik has unveiled a new set of strings for double bass called the Peter Infeld set, aka PI. Officially launched at the International Society of Bassists Convention, the new sets are described as having a focused sound, being easy to bow, and having plenty of sustain.
“They boast a substantial amount of sound colors that remain controllable for you as a player at all times,” the company explains. “Based on our legendary spiral core, we have developed these strings with a new combination of materials to achieve their outstanding properties: for jazz bassists they offer growl and sustain while being easily bowable and providing powerful projection for the orchestra player.”
The new Peter Infeld strings for bass are available in a standard four-string set with single C-extension and low B strings, as well. Each string’s spiral rope core is wrapped in chrome except for the B string, which has a tungsten and chrome wrap. They are all available now with a four-string set starting at $419.99.
