Ashdown Returns to Its Roots with UK-Built ABM Amps and Classic Custom Shop Cabinets
Ashdown Engineering has announced a renewed commitment to manufacturing its products in the UK by introducing new models to its ABM range. They’ve also announced the Ashdown Classic Custom Shop Range, which launches with three new B&C NEO-loaded cabinets.
“After 44 years of innovation in amplification, it’s time to return to our roots here in Essex,” says Mark Gooday, founder of Ashdown Engineering. “We’re dedicating 2025 to building more in our UK facility, ensuring that the quality, craftsmanship, and innovation we’re known for remain firmly MADE IN THE UK.”
The new lineup begins with the UK-ABM-300-EVO IV and UK-ABM-600-EVO IV, which feature their EVO IV topology in 300 and 600-watt models. Aside from the power, they have mostly the same features: a 9-band EQ, signature VU meter, a 12AX7-driven preamp, a one-knob compressor, a sub-harmonic generator, and more.
The UK-built EVO IV cabs come in several variations. The largest is the UK-ABM-810H EVO IV, which houses eight 10-inch ceramic drivers in sealed chamber pairs. “With a massive 2000W AES power handling and a switchable high-frequency horn, this is a cabinet built to deliver, night after night,” Ashdown states. Other cabs include a 410, a 210, a 115, and a 112. All of the cabs feature Neutrik Speakon connectors, rear-ported designs, and mahogany plywood construction.
Finally, the Classic Custom Shop Range of cabinets features a pinnacle of their production line.
“The new Ashdown Classic Custom Shop range of bass enclosures has been meticulously engineered for extraordinary articulation and low-end response. Built using high-quality Birch Ply cabinets, these enclosures are braced for rigidity, ensuring a naturally tight and dynamic sound. Each cabinet features a tuned bass-reflex port, enhancing perceived volume specifically around 100-80Hz,” they write. “Designed with aesthetics and durability in mind, the cabinets are covered in Buffalo Tolex and finished with Silver & Blue weave grill cloth, Chrome corners, and the iconic Ashdown double-wing logo prominently displayed.”
The Classic Custom Shop Range is fitted with B&C neodymium speakers, which they say offset the weight of the Birch Ply enclosures while retaining performance. They include 112, 210, and 115 models.
