Thundercat’s Colbert Performance and a Three-Player Bass Showdown Lead This Week’s Top 10
It was another great week of grooves, gear, and lessons on No Treble. Our most-read story was a feature on bass phenom Thundercat’s recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to perform his latest single, “Children of the Baked Potato.” Joined by Remi Wolf, the clip is one of those performances that just feels alive. “The groove was deep, the vibe was loose, and Thundercat’s bass tone was pure gold,” Jody explains.
Next up was a three-way showdown between Davie504, Charles Berthoud, and Danny Sapko. The ultimate “BEHS Battle” showcases each players strengths for a video that’s lighthearted and heavy grooved.
Marek Bero published another fantastic bass lesson from his Bass Gym series. This time he picks out the best bass bits from the classic 1969 song “Little Green Bag.” The bass-forward song is a masterclass in G minor pentatonic riffs.
Other stories included Eva Gardner returning to The Mars Volta, a new two-bass release from Frank Zappa, a Halloween-themed stompbox from Empress Effects, Billy Sheehan’s new EP, and more. Scroll on to get the best of bass from this week.
