Cheap Trick Is “All Washed Up” — But Their New Album Proves They’re Nowhere Near Done

Cheap Trick All Washed Up

Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Cheap Trick have returned with All Washed Up, marking the band’s 21st studio album. The tongue-in-cheek album title belies a set of music that sees them at the top of their game. Part of the secret to their longevity has been their artistic integrity, says bassist Tom Petersson.

“We just are making songs that we like, would like to hear ourselves,” he told ABC Audio. “So it’s like we’re making it for ourselves and our friends, and then the rest, it’s like having a lottery ticket. Now we just basically do it for our own enjoyment because that’s probably all anybody’s gonna get out of it is their own enjoyment.”

Petersson continues to add his signature sound to the band by using a 12-string bass, a concept that he pioneered in the 1970s. (Check out his latest axe from Brooks Bass Guitars.)

You can hear Petersson’s massive sound on “The Riff That Won’t Quit.” Check out the music video, which is loaded with studio footage of the bassist on both four and twelve-string basses.

All Washed Up is out now on CD, vinyl and as a digital download (Apple Music, and Amazon Music).
