Bush Strip It Down at Tiny Desk as Corey Britz Locks In with His Headless Bass

BUSH dropped into the NPR Music office for a four song Tiny Desk set, and it is another reminder that this series keeps delivering the goods.  The band runs through a mix of old and new with “Machinehead,” “Glycerine,” “Out of This World,” and “I Beat Loneliness.” It is a smart balance that shows how well these songs hold up when everything is stripped back.

On bass, Corey Britz is playing a headless 6 string multiscale Ibanez bass, and he sounds great. The tone is clean and tight and his lines sit deep in the pocket. He simplifies where it matters and lets space carry the groove. “Machinehead” feels especially transformed. What used to hit with force now leans into feel. On “Glycerine,” the restraint stands out even more. Lets not skip past the new tracks, BUSH can still write a banger.  This new album has all the power and presence of Sixteen Stone.

The band is currently out on tour and recently released a new album, check out a recent Podcast episode with Corey HERE.
