Ellen Alaverdyan Steps Into Original Prog Territory with Jaminai’s “13 Town”
Young bassist Ellen Alaverdyan continues to carve out her own creative path with Jaminai’s new single, “13 Town.” The official video showcases a heavy instrumental sound rooted in prog and cinematic arrangements, with Alaverdyan leading the way on 5 string fretless bass.
This is not a case of bass sitting underneath the mix. Alaverdyan drives the song with melodic themes, extended solo sections, and fast runs that often put her instrument in the role of lead voice. Her fretless playing adds another layer, moving between singing melodies and aggressive passages while keeping the low end intact. The track also features guitar work from Hovak Alaverdyan and drums from Gregg Bissonette, whose playing brings extra energy and intensity.
“13 Town” is tied to Jaminai’s debut album and offers another glimpse at Alaverdyan’s evolution from standout young bassist to composer and bandleader focused on original music.
