New Jazz Underground’s “23” Highlights the Exceptional Upright Bass Playing of Sebastian Rios
New Jazz Underground recently released a new live video for “23,” filmed in New York City as part of the group’s new “hoodies” sessions series.
The trio features Abdias Armenteros on saxophone and vocals, Sebastian Rios on upright bass, and TJ Reddick on drums. Stripped down to sax, bass, and drums, the group creates a huge sound throughout the nearly 30 minute performance. Sebastian Rios is a standout. His heavy upright grooves drive the music while his aggressive playing will draw you in. The performance is the first session in a new series of live performances connected to the band’s new album, Hoodies.
Check out the full performance below and keep an eye on Sebastian Rios’s commanding upright bass work throughout. If you can only stick around for one track, start with the first.
