Throwback Thursday: J. Geils Band Tears Through “Love Itis” in Newly Unearthed TV Clip
For this week’s Throwback Thursday, we’re checking out a newly unearthed clip of the J. Geils Band performing “Love Itis” on The Midnight Special in 1975.
Danny Klein is carrying the bottom on a Flying V bass, which is a cool sight on its own but even more interesting is that it appears to have a Fender neck. I’m not aware of Fender ever making a Flying V bass so im guessing its some sort of Frankencaster. To complete the visual, guitarist J. Geils is also playing a Gibson Flying V and they are rocking some sweet vintage suits.
The band is in top form here, with Peter Wolf out front and Klein locking it all together with the kind of groove that made the J. Geils Band such a powerhouse.
No Treble CEO Jody Miller is a Chicago-based bassist, guitarist, engineer, and producer best known for his bass gear demo videos and as the co-host of The Bass Nerds podcast.
Frankenbass, for sure. Did you notice the body is a left-hand body; knobs above instead of below?
