MXR Textures Pedal Turns Your Signal Into Granular Soundscapes
MXR has introduced the Textures Granular Synth Engine, a pedal that “pulls your sound apart and weaves it into wondrous new forms.” It uses granular synthesis and dynamics processing to reshape your tone.
“Whether you’re a bedroom noodler chasing the ambient tones of your favorite record, a noise rocker layering dreamlike chaos under riffs and solos, or a sound designer scoring a film, there are no boundaries here—just a self-contained universe of musical potential sitting right on your pedalboard. Plug in, and see where it takes you,” the company shares.
Textures has tons of features, but eight ready-to-play presets give you an easy place to start, from regenerative octave loops to warbly polyphonic synt. It features three modes (Delay, Auto-Freeze, and Layers) to define how the grains are sampled and replayed. From there, Size, Overlap, Pitch, Reverse, Delay, Regen, and Mix knobs let you dial in the effect. Textures has on-board reverb, filter, and vibrato effects.
For connectivity, MXR gave Textures full stero I/O with mono, wet/dry, and true stereo output options. An expression pedal jack and control input allow for on-the-fly adjustments.
