Watch Alex Lofoco Perform Jaco Pastorius’s “Havona” Bass Solo
Alex Lofoco is keeping the music of Jaco Pastorius alive with a solo bass performance of “Havona.”
Lofoco takes on the bass solo section from the Weather Report classic. He performs it on a fretless five string Cortex bass with a gorgeous buckeye burl top, bringing his own touch to Jaco’s melodic lines and unmistakable fretless vocabulary.
Composed by Pastorius, “Havona” closes Weather Report’s landmark 1977 album, Heavy Weather. Nearly five decades later, the solo continues to challenge and inspire bassists. Lofoco gives us another reason to revisit it. HERE is a little clip of Alex playing live at NAMM.
