Video Demo: Checking Out the New Washburn Scavenger 78 Bass

Back in February No Treble shared the news that Washburn was bringing back its Wing Series, including the Scavenger 78 Bass and we got our hands on one and decided to shoot a video about it.

The original Scavenger came out of Washburn’s Wing Series in the late 70s, when the company was offering players an alternative to the familiar bass designs that dominated the market. The shape still stands out today.   The Scavenger keeps things pretty simple. You get a mahogany body and mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard, 22 frets, and a full 34 inch scale. Electronics are passive with a single P style pickup and straightforward volume and tone controls. It is available in Black and Ruby Red.

That simplicity is part of what I like about it. There is not much standing between your hands and the sound of the instrument. The P style pickup gives you that familiar punch and midrange presence.  The high mass bridge and string through body construction help notes hang around longer than you usual.

For this demo I am playing the Scavenger through a Trickfish combo and running through a few different styles so you can hear how the bass responds. I wanted to keep the signal path simple and let the character of the instrument come through.
