Bass of the Week: SiC Instruments Madness 6-String Fretless

We get a lot of great basses shown to us on our Facebook page, but when Italian luthier Simone Calabrese sent a picture of his SiC Instruments Madness 6, I needed more. The combination of its poplar burl top and gorgeous green satin nitro finish makes this bass mesmerizing.

Built with neck-through construction, the bass’s top covers ash body wings attached to a 7-piece maple and wenge neck. The bass has a 35-inch scale and its stunning cocobolo fretless fingerboard has the equivalent of 27 frets for some serious range.

Calabrese loads the Madness with a pair of Nordstrand dual coil pickups with a series/single/parallel switch for each. The bass is rounded out with a Hipshot bridge with 18mm spacing and Ultralite Tuners.
