Playing For Change: The Weight

Playing For Change is an organization that brings together musicians from around the globe to “inspire and connect the world through music.” They’ve just released their latest video, which is a tribute to The Band with a performance of “The Weight.”

It starts with original guitarist Robbie Robertson and slowly reveals all the talent that contributed to the song, including Ringo Starr, Marcus King, Roberto Luti, Larkin Poe, Char, Ali Boulala, Mermans Mosengo, and more.

Filling the shoes of the late Rick Danko is none other than James “Hutch” Hutchinson, who contributed the track and can be seen in the video. His foundational line is tastefully accented with sliding fills up the neck.

“So Happy to have been a part of this track and video with some of my favorite musicians and peeps,” he wrote on his Facebook page. “Thank you Playing for Change for the great work that you do.”

In his time with No Treble, Kevin has met hundreds of amazing bassists and interviewed icons like Jack Casady, Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Marcus Miller, and more. He's a gigging bassist performing jazz in Northern Virginia and bluegrass with The Plate Scrapers up and down the East Coast. Kevin appreciates all genres of music, from R&B to metal and everything in between. Connect with Kevin on Facebook and check his performance schedule on his website.
