Khruangbin and Leon Bridges Team Up for “Texas Sun”

Khruangbin: Texas SunThe psychedelic genre-bending trio Khruangbin has teamed up with vocalist Leon Bridges for a new EP called Texas Sun. The vast state is home to both the band and Bridges, who pay homage to its expansiveness and beauty.

“Big sky country, that’s what they call Texas,” explains Khruangbin bassist Laura Lee. “The horizon line goes all the way from one side to another without interruption. There’s something really comforting about that.”

The four-song collection brings to mind a road trip through the open Texas landscape with dreamy, mid-tempo grooves. Lee’s bass lines serve as a focal point, locking in with drummer Donald Ray “DJ” Johnson Jr. to anchor the ambient sounds from the guitars. Working with Bridges was natural for her and her trio.

“If you just let the music do what it’s supposed to do, it will reveal itself,” Lee said. “We tried to take that same approach with Leon. For us, it was opening up our world to have another person in it. But all of it feels like Texas to me.”
