Kamasi Washington with Miles Mosley: The Garden Path
Saxophonist Kamasi Washington has just dropped a new single called “The Garden Path” that reflects the turbulent and uncertain times we live in.
“The world feels turned upside down,” he says. “There’s so much push and pull in every direction, from everyone you meet—no one knows what to think, who to believe, or how to approach life right now. No matter how smart you are, it’s hard not to feel blind.”
To debut the song, Washington and his extended band performed it on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The fourteen-piece ensemble is driven in part by the bass of Washington’s longtime musical partner, Miles Mosley. Starting with some psychedelic bow work, the bassist is equally intense in his groove over the solos and the heavy quarter pulse over the chorus.
