Karl Clews: Desafinado

Karl Clews has been busy, so we haven’t heard from him for a while. Now we know why.

“My aim is, at some point, to publish a collection of jazz and Latin-jazz standards arranged for solo bass, so this latest one – Desafinado – was an obvious choice, by one of my favourite composers, Antonio Carlos Jobim,” he shared with us. “And after what has felt like a very long and cold winter, some sunny bossa nova vibes were much needed! I’m playing this on my signature Bogart Broadsword, although to spice things up later in the piece, I also added an improvised piccolo bass solo (using a Chowny SWB short scales, strung with GHS piccolo strings), while I switch to comping the chords and bottom line on the Bogart. So this one could be performed either as a solo or a duet.”
