Gibson Launches Gene Simmons G2 Thunderbird Bass

Last year, Gibson and KISS bassist Gene Simmons announced they would be partnering for the G² line of instruments across the Gibson, Epiphone, and Kramer brands. Now the fruits of their labor are being realized in the first product from the line with the G² Thunderbird Bass. The instrument marks the first ever signature artist bass for Simmons from Gibson.
“Gibson is an outstanding company and has earned its place as a leading guitar brand with fans around the world,” Simmons states. “The new G² Thunderbird basses are all handmade in the USA, with a sound that is off the charts. The design is so beautiful and collectible, they are simply works of art.”
The new axe features a reverse Thunderbird body made from mahogany with multi-ply binding. Its mahogany neck has a rounded profile and an ebony fingerboard sporting 20 frets and pearloid reverse split diamond inlays.
Its electronics include a pair of T-Bird pickups with a Volume/Volume/Tone control configuration while its hardware is comprised of a Hipshot bridge and Hipshot Mini Clover tuners. Finally, Gibson finishes the bass in an ebony nitrocellulose lacquer with black chrome hardware and a mirror plex pickguard complete with a laser engraved Gene Simmons logo.
