Bass of the Week: Ritter Instruments The Late Lounge Raptor
Jens Ritter is just as much an artist as he is a luthier. A case in point is our latest Bass of the Week: the Ritter Instruments “Late Lounge Raptor.” The curvaceous five-string applies the Late Lounge high gloss finish to his Raptor model, which was inspired by birds of prey.
“Every year, falcons bred in the roof of my former workshop in Wachenheim,” he writes. “I was inspired to create this body shape after watching the falcon’s hunt. The dynamic of their flight is reflected in the shape of the body. The lower cutaway is ready to catch the prey.”
This Late Lounge Raptor is built with a stunning one-piece flame maple body with a matching flamed maple neck. Its dirty ebony fingerboard has 24 frets with Golden Mother of Pearl oval ring inlays. Of course, the instrument must sound as good as it looks, so Ritter fitted it with his Triplebucker and Slimbucker pickups matched to a Ritter C-3-S active/passive 3-band preamp.
