Fuchs Audio Unveils Four New Bass Amps Based on Two Classic Designs

Fuchs Audio has unveiled four new bass amps. The lineup is divided into two models – the FBT-1 and the FBS-1 – each with 300- and 700-watt models. Similar to the way Fuchs based his ODS guitar amps on Dumble amps, the new bass heads take their cues from iconic bass gear.
The FBT-1 takes inspiration from the SVT while adding the company’s own touches, including a hybrid tube/FET preamp with a switch mode power supply.
“The FBT-1 bass amps will be made available in 300 and 700-watt models. They feature a tube preamp inspired by the classic SVT, but with improvements like a steep-slope subsonic filter and a DI output using high-speed audiophile op amps,” Fuchs writes. “The DI output is electrically balanced pre/post switch, ground lift, DI Phase, and a global mute switch.”
On the other hand, the FBS-1 is inspired by the rarer Walter Woods amps of yesteryear. Fuchs reverse-engineered the designs and added his own tweaks like instrumentation grade op-amps, precision passive components, and circuit refinements. The preamp sections are based on the Walter Woods M-series and, similar to the FBT-1, will have enhancements like a steep-slope subsonic filter, high-speed audiophile op amps, and a unique, balanced DI output with pre/post switch, ground lift, DI Phase, and a global mute switch.
Each of the amps weigh in at just six pounds in a 12″ x 3″ x 9″ enclosure.
The Fuchs Audio FBT-1 and FBS-1 are shipping now at $900 to $1,400. Preamp-only versions will be available later this year.
