Ray’s Raving About… Kenny Werner’s “Effortless Mastery”

Effortless Mastery by Kenny WernerEffortless Mastery by Kenny Werner is a book I never keep far from my reach and I recommend to EVERYONE.

The subtitle to this book is “Liberating The Master Musician Within”. Although the applications of this book could benefit to any profession it is so refreshing to have something like this written by a musicians perspective. Kenny Werner is a fantastic pianist and his own personal self discoveries as a musician really make everything very relatable.

Topics include, fear based practicing, teaching, listening, composing, wrong notes and many more. It is a great “guide” to becoming a better musician as a whole and tapping into your creative potential.

The book also addresses a very common thing for us musicians, performance anxiety and methods of how to counteract its effects.

Yet another aspect of the book is the spirituality of music and the use of meditation techniques.

I simply cannot say enough about this book and if you do not have it already I HIGHLY recommend it!

  1. I got this book in July and I love it too. I have to say that, of all the books I've read, it has had the biggest impact on my playing. Great book! I often use the meditation exercises before gigs. Kenny writes beautifully about music too.

  3. That’s weird, I just commented on this on Facebook as it randomly threw this up as a recent post! It’s a great book, I got into meditating before gigs last year and copied the mp3s from the book to my player so I could listen to them before the gigs
