Gear Watch: Superior Bassworks Strings

Superior Bassworks StringsDid you know that there are specific types of strings for the upright bass? You get different strings for the different styles of music you can play – even different tunings if you’re playing a classical solo bass piece. Now there is a company dedicated to producing bass strings specifically with rockabilly players in mind: Superior Bassworks.

Superior Bassworks creates kevlar-cored nylon upright strings. The strings come in Blood Red, Dirty Gut, Black and Clear Grey with special colors available for order. The strings feature a metal ferrule covered in vinyl at the tip. The strings are treated to provide a low-tension feel but remain stiff enough for pizzicato playing. For rockabilly and psychobilly slap players the nylon string will help prevent damage to your hand and fingerboard from continuous playing.

You can check out Superior Bassworks on their web site as well as Twitter and Facebook.

Buyer beware– placed an order from these guys in December 09– it's mid March 2010 and all I am getting from this company is — NOTHING, sans some excuses. I'd look someplace else to buy. The strings aren't much money, but it is the principle of the thing that really burns me.

Brandon is a good guy. Real friendly and helpful. There was a period where the Tri Cores were out of production due to shortage of materials, and I suspect that was CB’s problem. Maybe not, I’m not speaking for him but I’ve had nothing but good experiences with Superior Bassworks. Everyone I know that’s ordered strings from them got them in about a week. I just ordered a set but they’re coming from Belgium. We’ll see how that goes.

So Gordo, how long before you received your strings?
