George Porter, Jr. to Tour with 7 Walkers

George Porter, Jr.Legendary New Orleans bassist George Porter, Jr. will be hitting the road as part of the jam supergroup, 7 Walkers, on their upcoming tour. The band, founded by ex-Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann and guitarist Papa Mali, will also be releasing their self-titled debut on November 2 through Response Records. Though Porter is on the album, much of the bass work is also done by Reed Mathis, who left the band due to commitments with the group Tea Leaf Green.

Porter is best known for his groovy lines with funk pioneers, the Meters, but 7 Walkers is more of a southern rock jam band, in the vein of the Grateful Dead. Their new countrywide tour will begin in October throughout California and is scheduled to wrap up on New Year’s Eve in Reading, Pennsylvania.
