They Wrote a Song That Sounded Like The Meters – Then Played It Live With George Porter Jr.
Singer-songwriters Meg Pollaro and Andrew Shapiro launched their band Twilight Muse in 2023 and hit the ground running. The band has followed up their debut studio album with a new live album called Collabs: Live at Garcia’s at The Cap, which sees them teaming up with legendary musicians like John Popper, Robert Randolph, and G. Love.
One other legend on the album is a New Orleans bass icon: the ever-funky George Porter Jr. of The Meters. Today, the band has released the live video for the song “The Mayor” with Porter sitting in.
“Recording ‘The Mayor’ with George Porter Jr. was pure kismet,” says Twilight Muse’s Meg Pollaro. “The early version was more mellow — closer to our debut — but our guitarist Joe Colgan came up with this riff that sounded straight out of New Orleans. We joked, ‘It’s like The Meters!’ Then suddenly, we were booked to open for George and he graciously agreed to play bass on the song. It came together like magic.”

Collabs: Live at Garcia’s at The Cap is out now on Apple Music, Amazon Music, and more.
