Dream Theater’s John Myung on Band’s Future and “Greatest Bassist” Title

John MyungDream Theater’s John Myung was interviewed by MusicRadar.com after being voted “Greatest Bassist of All Time” in their online poll.

In response to the title, the bassist exclaimed, “…I, in no way, feel that it’s true in the sense of the title of the award, because there’s so many great players all over the world who contribute amazing music. So, even though I’m deeply flattered and appreciative, let’s say that it’s taken with a bit of objectivity.”

He also took the time to comment on the future of Dream Theater without drummer Mike Portnoy, who left the prog rockers earlier this month. When asked if the band would welcome Portnoy back should he change his mind, Myung replied, “Anything is possible. But right now, the band is focused on finding a new member to get in the studio with. We want to make a great record that we’re happy with and have a great next tour. That’s what we do, and that’s what we’re looking at.”

Myung started Dream Theater with schoolmates John Petrucci and Mike Portnoy in 1985 at the Berklee College of Music.

Your list sucks. anything compiled by a small group of ppl that dont know jack squat about music is not going to be accurate. He’s not that good.

  2. I don’t believe Myung talked that much.
