Jason Newsted: Bass Solo with Kirk Hammett

Here’s a clip of Jason Newsted during his time with Metallica from the Cunning Stunts DVD.

Jason starts with a little bass solo doodle before he is joined by guitarist Kirk Hammett on duet renditions of the songs “My Friend of Misery,” “Sanitarium,” and finally “Nothing Else Matters.”

  1. Cap'n

beautiful, like most of their music

  2. Bongo

I still think Jason was their best bassist. Cliff was a guitarist who happened to learn how to play bass imo.

i agree with Bongo on both points….Billy was a guitar player too..im jus say’n

  4. my comment on this part of the performance is just that….kinda weak for a solo, but well played and melodic, Kirk’s playing is sweet too.

Cliff is a bass legend, IMO the best bass player the big M has ever had to date…

Jason is a great bass player and I think this speaks as to how much the powers that be on MetallicA held him back. (As even they have admitted). Too bad they only realized it when he was already out of the band.
